Before transforming into the Telkom School of Applied Sciences, this faculty was known as Telkom Polytechnic which previously consisted of two ICT training programs, namely STT Telkom Professional Program and NIIT & Telkom Center.The two training institutions were then merged to form a new vocational higher education institution. On December 27, 2007Telkom Polytechnic inaugurated by Director of PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk., Mr. Rinaldy Firmansyah.Telkom Polytechnic exists with the mission of contributing to Indonesian and global society by producing graduates with international perspectives and the ability to compete globally. This is stated in its credo “Giving and Caring the World.” KHAS Development System (Knowledge, Hard Skill, Attitude dan Soft Skill) is an aspect that is continuously improved to serve as a guide for entering the industrial world. The learning system implemented utilizes the “Initial System” approach, namely: Coaching, Mentoring, dan Coaching.This method serves as an appropriate medium for vocational education that focuses primarily on enhancing ICT competencies.

As a new vocational college, the presence of Telkom Polytechnic immediately increased the academic competition. This was evidenced by several achievements, such as in 2011, Telkom Polytechnic achieved the 3rd Place Best National University Student,and in the following year, 2012 achieved 1st Place National Best Student.In addition, the Telkom Polytechnic team achieved 2rd Place National Polytechnic English Olympic in 2013, and in 2012 achieved 3rd Place National University Debating Competition across Indonesia.Telkom Polytechnic also establishes partnerships with the industry. Towards the end of 2012, Telkom Polytechnic revamped its industrial internship concept, enabling students to immerse themselves professionally in the industry and be treated just like regular employees. This means that students participating in industry-based job training will receive a salary and other employee benefits. By 2013, more than 500 students had been employed by industry for work training involving over 20 companies across sectors such as telecommunications, banking, information systems, media, and consumer goods, as well as a global organization, the International Labour Organization. The facilities utilized are the result of technology development by the Telkom Polytechnic internal team, comprising the lecturers and students involved. The academic system that was developed has attracted the attention of one of the best public universities in Bandung and several other universities from outside Java, as it is recognized as an integrated and reliable system.

During the merger process to form Telkom University in 2013, Telkom Polytechnic transformed into School of Applied Science or the Telkom Applied Science School (TASS). Subsequently, in 2014, the name Telkom Applied Science School (TASS) was changed to School of Applied Science (SAS).

School of Applied Sciences Telkom University is one of seven faculties at Telkom University which focuses on Vocational education.To support the competency of skilled graduates and match the needs of industry, the vocational education curriculum is designed to be 60% practice and 40% theory.In addition, students will be equipped with national and international competency certifications. To support students creativity and entrepreneurial skills, the faculty has established an incubation platform through the internship, competitions, community service, or research projects recognized as course credits SKS
